Every year of teaching that passes, I end up thinking… what grade would my first year class be right now? This year, it’s a first… they are going to be seniors in high school.
I wish I had some of my old photos, I thought. I couldn’t find one single picture stored on my computer, so I used the WayBack Machine and found them from my old classroom website! There were many pictures from my very first classroom, at my first school, my first year. Wow, it seems like a million years ago!
I wish I could say that something profound happened that year, something that defined me as a teacher. But, to be honest, it was as many first years are, the kind where you hang on for the ride, survive, and hope that at some point you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. I know I learned more that year than four years of college, student teaching, and all of that put together. Bu, I guess I really enjoyed it, because the ride is still spinning, eight years later, and I am still hanging on.
