This morning we spoke with a great class is Roma (Rome), Italy!  The class was very excited to talk with us.  Each student took turns introducing themself to us in front of their web cam.

Uganda

International School of Uganda

We were lucky enough to have a teacher from Uganda speak with us today and share about her school.  It was 8:30 in the evening in Uganda, but only 11:30 here.  We were envious that they have a pool they get to swim in at school.  The students in the International School are from all over the world.  We enjoyed learning from their teacher very much.

We were talking to a school in Texas! We started at 10:37 and finished just a few minutes ago. Only a couple of them have been to Missouri, but only a couple of us have been to Texas, too. They love to read, and so do we! They like to read Percy Jackson, Warriors, Geronimo Stilton, and Jack Stalwart. They have a Walmart, a Target, and a Toys ‘R’ Us all right next to them. They had just had an intruder drill, and they are learning about the Stamp Act and the Tea Act.

Interesting Facts: Their school buildings are divided K-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Their GATE kids have GATE for 30 minutes every day.  The don’t have snow days in Orange Texas, but they missed 3 weeks due to Hurricane Rita.

An English Accent

Today we Skyped with a class in Leicester, U.K. We do not think they have states like the U.S. does.

Some things are different from us, such as their sports. They play sports like cricket, basketball, English football (soccer), and tennis. They were learning informational text and studying communities. They go to school from 8:35am until 3:00pm September through June and get 2 week vacation for Christmas and Easter. It was very chilly there. It was 0 degrees celsius.  They showed us a view out their window.  They live in a city and do not have a lot of green land like we do.

Along with differences we have similarities, like loving sports. We work hard at school. Both of us are in school Monday through Friday, and have recess or playtime. All of us get Christmas Break and Easter break, too.

We really enjoyed their English accents and meeting a class that lives an entire ocean away.  On Friday, they are going to give us a tour of their school with Skype.

We Have The Same Chairs!

Today we Skyped with Virden, Manitoba, Canada. We learned that Canada does not have states like the United States.  They have provinces instead.

There are some things that are different from us. They go to school until the end of June. They start at 9:00 until 3:30. Also they get to play in the snow during recess. The regular teachers teach their specials, like art and music. They’re studying light in science. Most of them also have passports. They live close to the border.  Only a couple of us in our class have been to Canada, but most of them have been to the U.S.

We also have things in common. We both have the same time ranges.  Our time zone is Central and so is theirs.  They are almost right above us to the north. Plus we both have colorful classroom. We both have snow-days and field trips, too. There they have 21 kids in their class, which is very close to are number of kids we have.

So in all, we have a lot more in common than we thought.
